We will work diligently to improve the Quality of Life in our area with a priority on safety, beautification of appearance and taking pride in our neighborhood. We strive to assist everyone through communication and education. Neighbors helping neighbors is what we are all about.
GOING GREEN
Our Neighborhood Association has made Miller Park and Minne Lusa a more beautiful place to live. We have planted flowers on both the big island and small island on Martin Avenue, thanks to Sharon!
We all participate in Neighborhood Clean-up Day every Spring to keep people from illegal dumping.
We keep our dues to a minimum by collecting aluminum cans and recycling them for cash. Please bring your cans with you when you come to the regular monthly meeting and give them to Beth or Sharon. The cash goes toward our association expenses. We have several neighbors who save their cans on a regular basis and Beth drives around with her new pickup on a regular route to pick them up. Thanks, Beth! We know those cans are not that clean and do not smell very good after a couple of weeks, but she has collected $672. in just the 1st half of the year. WOW!
SAFE NIGHT OUT 2010
Safe Night Out is an event that is held every year around October 23rd at the Northeast Precinct. The purpose of the event is to provide a safe place for the neighborhood kids to come and show off their costumes, collect candy, eat popcorn, win prizes, play on the jumper and have a great time. The fun actually begins about a month before, when all of the shifts at the Northeast Precinct compete with each other to see who can collect the most candy for the trick-or-treat bags. There are also candy, prizes and other donations provided from other members of the community. The Friday before hand, the Miller Park Minne Lusa Neighborhood Association and Citizen Patrol work with other members of the Northeast Precinct to fill all the trick-or-treat bags, set up tables, decorate, etc. We all come back again on Saturday to coordinate the party and make sure everything works out well and a good time is had by all. We had an excellent turn-out this year. About 300 parents and children came to the party and enjoyed popcorn, candy, prizes, clowns, stencil painting, the Looney Tunes jumper, Humane Society and meeting some of our officers. The grand prize was a bicycle, which was won by a little girl dressed up as a princess. Everyone had a wonderful time and we are looking forward to doing it again next year.
