NORTHEAST PRECINCT APPRECIATION
Friday, April 16th, 2010, we showed our appreciation for all of the officers at the Northeast Precinct. The Neighborhood Association and Citizen Patrol worked together and made Beth's famous gumbo burgers, BBQ pulled pork sandwiches, mac & cheese, baked beans, relishes and chips. Bemis Park Citizen Patrol provided all the desserts. We started at 2 a.m. feeding the graveyard shift. Every shift was provided a fresh hot meal. We had a lot of volunteers show up at every shift and had a lot of help when we finished at 9 p.m. and had to clean everything up. All of the officers really enjoyed the food. We had a lot of positive comments and thank you's. Several days later, they were still talking about how much they appreciated our efforts...especially the graveyard shift, who tends to be left out most of the time. I want to thank each and every person that voluteered their time to help us with this project. A huge thanks goes out to all of our police officers and the fantastic job they do every day. Keep them in your prayers, so they all stay safe!
Project Linus
Project Linus is an annual project, where people come together to make soft blankets for hospitalized children. These are normally the soft fleece hand-tyed blankets. Our neighborhood meets at Mt Olive Lutheran Church to make and collect blankets that are dropped off. This year we had an extremely good turn out of people both young and old. The neighborhood Association and Citizen Patrol contributed money to help purchase the fleece material and some people brought their own to donate. These people spent four hours just cutting and tying blankets. You can see from the pictures how many blankets were made, just at this one location. The blankets will be distributed December 1st to hospitals throughout the area. There is still a need for more blankets the size of a couch throw with a more mature theme for the older children. The blankets must be new and unused. We have this project going every year, so you can start now to make blankets for next years event. Click on the pictures below to see all the helpful hands we had and take a look at all the blankets they were able to make. What a blessing to have such wonderful neighbors!
